Pediatric Dentistry: Set Your Kids Up For A Lifetime of Healthy Smiles

Drs. William Stofer and Jason Hemphill provide outstanding pediatric dentistry services at their Warsaw, IN, practice. Both our dentists and many of our hygienists have young children themselves, and they know how to make dentistry fun from personal experience. Regular care at Dental Solutions can protect your child’s smile by preventing decay and gum disease. With ongoing visits, we can also teach your child about good dental care, which will help lay a solid foundation for future oral health.

Preventative care is vital to your child’s dental health.

Pediatric Services at Dental Solutions

Regular dental cleanings are essential for children as well as adults. When your child comes into the office for a cleaning, one of our friendly hygienists will remove plaque and tartar. Our practitioners work very gently. They will thoroughly clean your child’s teeth without irritating his or her gums. Throughout the cleaning, our team will talk to your child and explain what is happening, doing our best to make dental care enjoyable.

After the cleaning, Dr. Stofer, Dr. Hemphill, or one of our other team members will conduct an exam. Your practitioner will look for decay and damaged teeth, and will recommend treatment as needed. He or she will also check for certain dental problems that are more likely to affect children. These conditions can include misalignment, over-retained baby teeth, and impacted wisdom teeth, among others. During the exam, we will discuss proper oral care and explain the best ways to care for your child’s teeth. Our team will also guide your little one, helping him or her take personal responsibility for dental health.

When Should Your Child Start Visiting the Dentist?

You should schedule your child’s initial dental visit around his or her first birthday, or no more than six months after the first tooth appears. However, good oral care begins long before this time. Even before your baby starts to teethe, you should wipe down his or her gums with a soft cloth, particularly after eating.

Like adults, children should typically visit the dentist twice a year. If your child has recurring decay, misalignment, or some other condition, you may need to schedule appointments more often.

The Benefits of Pediatric Dentistry

Regular pediatric dentistry is important because it help ensure a lifelong healthy smile. Many assume that children are unlikely to develop cavities, when the reality is that kids are just as likely to suffer from decay as adults – if not more so. Plus, decay is cyclical. Children who develop cavities are more likely to suffer from chronic decay as adults. Finally, early dental visits will teach your child about the importance of routine hygiene. By instilling good habits at a young age, we can protect your child’s beautiful smile for years to come.
