Versatile Denture Choices

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures are designed to rest comfortably on the gums and be removable for cleaning. Customization is the key to creating dentures with a snug fit.

From the very first steps, Dr. Stofer and Dr. Spangle take extra care to design dentures that fit securely. They also insist on using high-quality materials to ensure both the teeth and gums look natural so that patients can smile confidently.

However, traditional dentures have some shortcomings. Because they are not attached to the jaw, they cannot stimulate the bone growth that prevents your jaw from shrinking and changing shape. To accommodate these changes, your denture will periodically need to be adjusted, relined, or remade.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Patients looking for the utmost security with dentures may want to consider dentures that attach to dental implants, which are small posts surgically inserted through the gums into the jaw.

Four or more implants can support a full arch denture and ensure that it never moves out of place when you are eating or speaking, giving you confidence and peace of mind.

A major benefit of implants is that they stimulate bone growth so your jaw remains strong and keeps its original shape. This helps you maintain a healthier and more youthful appearance.

Partial Dentures

Sometimes patients have lost several teeth but aren't ready for full dentures. Dr. Stofer and Dr. Spangle also custom design partial dentures that can restore each missing tooth.

Partial dentures feature artificial teeth and gums arranged to match your tooth loss pattern. They are typically held in place by clips that attach to nearby teeth.

If you are concerned about partial dentures shifting out of place, Dr. Stofer can instead pair dental implants with individual dental crowns or dental bridges and ensure each tooth is held securely.

A Closer Look at Implant-Supported Dentures

Advances in implant dentistry have given denture wearers the most secure foundation for dentures and simplified the daily routine of caring for the new teeth. You simply care for them like your natural teeth by brushing, flossing, and attending regular appointments with your dentist.

Implant dentistry is a technologically advanced field. To achieve long-lasting results, Dr. Stofer uses a Planmeca ProMax® 3D Max system at his Warsaw practice to plan implant surgeries. This state-of-the-art technology lets him determine the ideal locations for implants and optimize placement of them.

During your consultation at our dental office in Warsaw, IN, you will explore your candidacy and denture options with Dr. Stofer. He will determine if you can move forward with treatment.

Preparatory Procedures

You will have to be in good oral health before we can proceed. If you're receiving complete dentures, but have a remaining tooth or teeth in your dental arches, they will have to be extracted. If you are receiving implant-supported dentures, you will have to undergo implant placement surgery.

Our dentist will take traditional or digital impressions of your dental arches. These impressions will guide the fabrication of your custom partial or complete dentures.

Your impressions will be sent to a lab where technicians will carefully craft a lifelike denture from high-quality materials.

Denture Placement

In four to six weeks, your dentures will be complete, and you can return to our office for placement.

Caring for Your New Dentures

When cared for properly, traditional dentures can last more than a decade. Caring for your dentures is simple and only requires a few minutes each day:
Brushing Teeth

Brush Your Dentures

Brush your dentures twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste. You can also rinse them after meals to remove food particles and prevent plaque buildup.

Soak Dentures Overnight

Soak Overnight

If your dentures are removable, soak them overnight in lukewarm water or a denture cleansing solution. This will help clean them more thoroughly and give your gums time to rest.

Do You Lack Bone Density? All-on-4 Implants May Be a Solution

If you have been missing teeth for a long time or have worn traditional dentures and incurred bone loss in the jaw, you may be worried you lack the jawbone strength needed for an implant-supported denture.

Dr. Stofer has a solution that can work in many of these situations.

All-on-4® dental implants involve a newer dentistry technique that overcomes the problems of poor bone density by strategically placing implants in specific locations and at a unique angle to take advantage of the remaining bone.

The procedure is faster than a typical dental implant treatment, and you can get the implants and a denture that looks like your natural teeth placed on the same day. You can relax knowing you won't have to go without teeth.

Dr. Stofer has been my dentist for about 20 years and always liked him and their friendly staff. My 86 year old mom is staying with us now after breaking her hip and needed emergency dental work. After her procedure was done and as we were going home, her comment was that: "Dr. Stofer was the most gentle dentist she has ever been too."
